Education and Title IX

With years of experience advising university, college, and secondary-schools administrators, faculty, students, and families, Jones Walker attorneys understand the complex issues that arise under Title IX, student disciplinary processes, and faculty grievance procedures. For educational institutions, we provide full-spectrum counsel that helps identify risks and ensure compliance, enabling clients to fulfill their institutional missions and their students’ access to educational programming. We regularly serve as outside Title IX and student conduct investigators and hearing and appellate chairs for university, college, and secondary-school institutions.

What We Do

  • Investigations
  • Litigation
  • Policy review and drafting
  • Title IX and sexual misconduct investigations and appeals
  • Training
  • Legal advice to faculty grievance committees

Allegations of misconduct, inappropriate behavior, or unequal treatment — and the events that led to them — can have a deeply personal impact. We understand these concerns and approach every matter with sensitivity and care.

When not representing institutions, our attorneys are available to act as advisors for students and faculty going through Title IX, faculty grievance, and student conduct processes, including representation at any live hearing permitted under the institution’s policies.

Our primary goal is to ensure that our clients fully understand their rights and comply with their responsibilities under Title IX.

We work with clients and their families to:

  • Understand their due process and other rights under Title IX.
  • Advise students, student-athletes, faculty, and staff in Title IX, student conduct, and faculty grievance proceedings, including marshaling the evidence to be presented to the adjudicator, advising during investigation interviews, providing representation at live hearings, and assisting with submissions to decision-makers and appellate panels.
  • Prevent and respond to potential retaliation, coercion, intimidation, and other actions due to the filing or being the subject of a complaint.
