Richard Tyler is a partner in the firm's New Orleans office and co-chair of its construction practice. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and the Georgetown University Law Center.

Mr. Tyler has been a member of the firm's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group since 1982, and his practice involves complex matters in the fields of construction and real estate, business litigation, and health insurance.

Mr. Tyler is a member of the American Arbitration Association's National Roster of Neutrals and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. His ADR training includes AAA Arbitrator I Training (Commercial), AAA Arbitrator II Training (Construction), the Harvard Law School Mediation Workshop, Dispute Resolution Board Foundation (Administration & Practice Workshop, Advanced/Chairing Workshop), and CIArb International Commercial Arbitration Training Program. 

He has been an active member of the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law, where he is a former member of its Governing Committee and a past chair of the Division 3 (Design) Steering Committee.

Mr. Tyler frequently writes and speaks on a variety of topics. He has participated in seminars and programs for the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, the Defense Research Institute, the National Conference on Building Commissioning, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Federal Publications, Lorman Education Services, and Professional Education Systems. He is the author of Admissibility of Expert Testimony in Real Estate Damages, Third Edition (Appraisal Institute 2016), Discovery, in Construction ADR (ABA 2014), Construction Defects in Construction Law (ABA, 2009), and Defending Against Owner Claims in Construction Litigation, Representing the Contractor, 3d Ed. (Aspen, 2001). He also served as a co-editor of the book Construction Defects (ABA, 2012).

  • Counsel for owner with respect to contractor delay and disruption claims arising out of structural and mechanical erection work for a 2M MTPY hot-briquetted iron plant in Texas (ICC arbitration).
  • Lead Counsel for subcontractor with respect to cost overrun, delay, and rework claims arising out of mechanical erection work on a greenfield ammonium nitrate plant in Iowa (ICC arbitration and litigation).
  • Counsel for subcontractor in termination dispute with contractor in Louisiana (litigation).
  • Counsel for subcontractor with respect to contractor and sub-subcontractor disputes arising out of power plant work at water treatment facility (not in litigation). 
  • Lead Counsel for subcontractor in termination dispute with a sub-subcontractor on a tank construction project for refinery in Texas (litigation).
  • Counsel for demolition contractor in multiple lawsuits arising from deconstruction and repurposing of the original Interstate 10 “Twin Spans” bridge across Lake Pontchartrain (litigation).
  • Lead counsel for contractor with respect to multiple claims arising out of a project to replace a 23 km offshore section of a 28” gas pipeline running between Indonesia and Singapore (ad hoc UNCITRAL arbitration). 
  • Lead Counsel for contractor with respect to cost overrun, delay, and rework claims arising out of project to relocate an ammonium nitrate facility (litigation).
  • Counsel for FEMA contractor in lawsuit alleging that sitework for Katrina group housing caused damage to landowner’s property (litigation).
  • Counsel for contractor with respect to class and individual actions arising out failure of the New Orleans area hurricane protection system during Hurricane Katrina (litigation).
