"Healthcare Price Transparency Regulation: Current Status and Future Prospects," Jones Walker LLP Healthcare Client Alert

In November 2019, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), published its Price Transparency Requirements for Hospitals to Make Standard Charges Public Final Rule (the Price Transparency Rule), set to go into effect on January 1, 2021, which, among other things, requires certain US hospitals to disclose their privately negotiated rates with commercial health insurers. The rule follows the directives set forth in President Trump’s Executive Order titled Improving Price and Quality Transparency in American Healthcare to Put Patients First, issued as part of the administration’s effort to lay the foundation for a patient-driven healthcare system by making prices more transparent for patients. Continue reading >
