Adam N.
Matasar

Position
Partner
Office
New Orleans

Adam Matasar is a partner in the firm’s Corporate Practice Group. He advises clients — ranging from startups to publicly traded companies — on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and other complex transactions and investments.

Adam’s practice encompasses the full scope of business and investment transactions that build, fund, and grow companies: mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, venture capital investments, real estate development, joint ventures, governance, and a broad range of related commercial matters. His clients include startups and emerging companies, family offices, private equity firms, venture capital and other growth investors, and established public and private businesses across the country.

At Jones Walker, Adam serves in several leadership roles, including as co-chair of the Sports & Entertainment Industry Team and the Life Sciences & Healthcare Industry Team, and as co-leader of the private equity and independent sponsors practices. This cross-disciplinary vantage point allows him to develop and manage effective teams that, from the outset, match the right attorneys to the right tasks, create meaningful efficiencies, preserve momentum, and spare clients the cost and friction of unnecessary handoffs.

Adam is a highly regarded presenter at industry and legal conferences on topics such as private equity investment, startup formation and growth, and the business of entertainment. He has worked with incubators such as the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, Idea Village, and LaunchPad, and regularly counsels founders at every stage of the business life cycle, from formation through exit.

Before practicing law, Adam earned his living as a professional musician. He toured internationally, performed at renowned venues and festivals — including New Orleans’ own Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest, and French Quarter Festival — and composed and recorded on albums released by independent labels. His firsthand experience with recording, licensing, and touring agreements gives him a working knowledge of the entertainment industry from the artist’s side of the table, and it still shapes how he reads a deal. To this day, Adam continues to perform and record in his free time.
