William W. Horton, a partner in the firm’s Business & Commercial Transactions Practice Group and a member of the Healthcare Team in the Birmingham office, was quoted in an article published by the Birmingham Business Journal on July 13, 2016. The article, “Health Providers Brace for Medicaid Cuts in Alabama,” discusses the new cut in enhanced payments to doctors after The Alabama Medicaid Association’s $785 million request was inadequately funded by lawmakers. Doctors now face the decision of dropping Medicaid entirely, which would make finding a physician that accepts Medicaid in Alabama even more challenging for patients. “We have a lot of Medicaid eligible people in the state who need and deserve access to care, and that population is growing,” says Horton, “Approaching the funding of Medicaid as a short-term political issue is just not going to work. This is a problem that is not going away anytime soon.” Please click here to read the full article.
