Jones Walker recently assisted local nonprofit New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) in the acquisition of a 44-acre parcel of land for the organization’s largest project to date. The team of attorneys, led by partner Jeff Good, included partner Jonathan Katz, special counsel Stan Millan, and associate Vanessa Graf.
Jeff led the team in the complex real estate and land acquisition, which included parcel assemblage, addressing title matters for the future development of the 153 single-family home lots, and project entitlement. Jones Walker partner Jonathan Katz also assisted the team with identifying tax credits for the project.
After the property was successfully acquired, the New Orleans affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International announced plans to build a 145-home neighborhood, with 50 homes set aside for seniors, on the large parcel near Terrytown in Jefferson Parish, directly west of New Orleans.
Speaking about Jones Walker’s legal team’s work and the law firm’s long-standing relationship with the organization, New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Marguerite Oestreicher said, “We’ve worked closely with Jones Walker for more than a decade. Not only are they trusted thought partners in supporting our business goals and objectives, the firm is also deeply committed to the community. Jones Walker lawyers have served on our board and regularly support and volunteer with our build events.”
Jones Walker lawyers have supported New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity in tax credit, real estate acquisition, governance, and pro bono matters. Partners Andy Lee and Rob Worley served on the board of directors for the organization in the 1990s and 2000s, serving as board chair from 1999 to 2001 and 2005 to 2007, respectively.
“It is extremely rewarding to help New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity achieve success in making a project come to life, especially one that will provide this much needed housing in our community,” said Jeff.

About New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity
New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in 1983 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). Since its inception, NOAHH has been working in partnership with hardworking, low-income families in New Orleans to build and finance new, safe, affordable homes. The program makes homeownership possible for families who are unable to qualify for traditional home loans but have a stable job, good or no credit, and the willingness to contribute 250 hours of sweat equity to the building of Habitat homes. NOAHH’s mission is “to responsibly build communities where families can thrive, in homes they can afford.”
