On February 3, 2010, following three days of testimony in Alexandria, Louisiana, Jones Walker associates Shawn H. Kiefer and Avery B. Pardee secured a judgment in their clients' favor, specifically enforcing an agreement to purchase a home health care agency and awarding an additional $1.5 million dollars in compensatory and punitive damages and attorney fees. In its rulings, the court made express findings that the defendants had committed fraud. The court also pierced the corporate veil, rendering the individual defendant personally liable for the obligations of the corporate defendant.

Mr. Kiefer received his juris doctor degree and Bachelor of Civil Law from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University, in 2004, and is a member of the firm's Business & Commercial Transactions Practice Group. Ms. Pardee received her juris doctor degree from Tulane University Law School in 2007, and is a member of the firm's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group.
