Paul Woodall, a partner in the Business & Commercial Transactions Practice Group in the Birmingham office, was recently quoted in the Birmingham Business Journal article “Birmingham Experts Weigh in on Cybersecurity” about the Alabama Data Breach Notification Act of 2018. Mr. Woodall discusses how the new legislation could impact businesses in Alabama, saying that the new law places a number of obligations on businesses which acquire or use sensitive personally identifying information, including implementation of reasonable security measures, informing management of the security measures, and notifying those impacted residents in the event of by a data breach involving their personal information.
