Rob McGinley is special counsel in the Corporate Practice Group and a member of the real estate team. He focuses on commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and energy projects.
Rob provides practical and experienced counsel in a broad range of commercial and real estate transactions, blending his background in legal private practice with deep industry knowledge gained through his leadership role in a natural gas company within the renewable energy sector.
Most recently, Rob was a founding member of Vitol Biomethane (formerly BioMethane Partners), where he served as vice president of renewable partnerships and, later, chief administrative officer. Rob was responsible for developing landfill gas to renewable natural gas projects, where he procured projects with total budgeted development costs exceeding $350 million. His unique perspective — both as an attorney and as a C-suite executive — provides clients with practical insights into structuring complex transactions and navigating regulatory challenges.
Rob’s corporate practice encompasses a broad range of commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, stock and asset purchase agreements, commercial loan documentation, real estate transactions, and complex operating agreements. His experience includes approximately $100 million in new markets tax credit transactions, a $700 million sale of a fiberoptic infrastructure company, and multiple transactions exceeding $10 million involving sales of medical clinics. He has also represented businesses, banks, and individuals in sophisticated commercial matters throughout his career.
Rob has extensive experience in public-private partnerships throughout the renewable energy sector, having successfully negotiated municipal contracts and presented to city and county officials on complex public-private energy projects. Among other matters, he has prepared responses to dozens of municipal RFPs and negotiated and procured long-term (30-year) contracts for renewable natural gas projects. This experience provides valuable insight for clients involved in energy transactions, infrastructure projects, and public-private partnerships.
Prior to his business leadership role, Rob practiced in the Atlanta office of a national law firm, where he represented lenders and borrowers in private debt financings, including syndicated credit facilities, asset-backed financing, and mezzanine financing. He also has significant litigation experience, having handled complex commercial litigation, class actions, and appellate matters in state and federal courts.
