Andrew R.
Lee

Position
Partner
Office
New Orleans

Andy Lee is a partner in the Litigation Practice Group and a member of the corporate compliance group. He maintains an active national appellate and trial practice focused on business and commercial disputes. Andy founded and serves as co-leader of the firm’s privacy, data strategy, and artificial intelligence team and holds the CIPP/US designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Andy also chairs the firm’s Innovation Committee and co-leads the Technology Industry Team.

Litigation. Andy is a seasoned appellate litigator, having briefed and argued dozens of appeals in federal and state courts. He is one of only a handful of Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization certified appellate specialists. Andy is also an experienced trial lawyer, having represented clients in multiple substantive areas, often to trial. Clients have described Andy as “highly responsive” and “just an excellent, top-notch appellate lawyer,” and have said “he gets great results and is always available” and “Andy’s thoughtful approach continually impresses me.”

Andy’s recent appellate and trial experience has included taking on the lead counsel role in regular and class actions involving data breaches and invasion of privacy, private equity investment, public and private company fiduciary liability, shareholder derivative claims, trade secret theft, lender liability, land use and property disputes, charter school regulation and authorization, and computer software performance. In his appellate work, Andy recently served as lead appellate counsel and succeeded in securing a unanimous 12-0 en banc reversal from the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in an international arbitration enforcement case that garnered widespread attention.

Data Privacy and Security. Andy’s data privacy and security work involves advising clients in the areas of data privacy and cybersecurity resilience and recovery. He helps develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures to ensure defensible, repeatable, and efficient processes and programs related to the security of sensitive corporate data, recovery after cyber intrusions, litigation defense and prosecution, and complex electronic discovery of data in legal proceedings and internal investigations. Andy is regularly called on to lead legal and incident response teams in response to cybersecurity incidents. He has served as the lead author of Jones Walker’s signature critical infrastructure cybersecurity industry surveys, published in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024.

Andy has been quoted in Bloomberg, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and several other news and public forums on the topics of appellate legal decisions, cybersecurity, and data privacy. He regularly speaks to industry groups on all these topics.

Andy has also led multiple pro bono litigation matters, including the successful state and federal habeas corpus representation of a former inmate on Louisiana’s Death Row.
